Pro Tools 101 - Pro Tools Fundamentals l

Two days hands-on training with assessment exam

This course covers basic Pro Tools principles. It provides everything you need to complete a Pro Tools project-from initial set up to final mix-down. The course focuses on Pro Tools software and covers a multitude of new functions and feature enhancements. Whether your project involves recording live instruments, MIDI sequencing of software synthesisers, or audio editing or clip looping, this course will give you the basic skills to succeed.

20 hours

Prerequisites

Basic understanding of recording techniques, processes and equipment.

Objectives

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • create your first session
  • make your first audio recording
  • import media into your session
  • make your first MIDI recording
  • select and navigate
  • apply basic and mixed editing techniques
  • finish your work
  • create music and post hands-on projects.

Course fees:

Pro Tools 110 -Pro Tools Fundamentals II

Three days hands-on training with assessment exam

This course provides a more detailed look at the Pro Tools system above and beyond the knowledge you gained in the Pro Tools 101 course. It covers all the key concepts and skills needed to operate a Pro Tools system at the User level. This course, along with the Pro Tools 101: An Introduction to Pro Tools, provides the foundation to Pro Tools User Certification and for the later 200-series of courses on Pro Tools music and post production.

26 hours including exam

Intended for:

  • Musicians
  • Audio Engineers
  • Sound Editors for film or television

Prerequisites

Students are strongly advised to complete the Pro Tools 101 course before enrolling on this course. You may still enrol if you have not taken the 101 course, but only those who have passed the Pro tools 101 course will be permitted to take the User Certification Exam.

Objectives

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • configure your studio and session
  • control Pro Tools using external controllers
  • manage session data and media files
  • record MIDI and audio, using loop recording and advanced techniques
  • work with time scales and virtual instruments
  • work with Avid Elastic Audio
  • edit and quantize MIDI and audio
  • use audio editing and file management techniques
  • apply editing techniques such as the use of Clip Loops
  • enable, play, view and edit automation data
  • mix using sends, returns, plug-ins, Master Faders and groups.

Pro Tools User - Becoming an Avid Certified Professional

The Avid Pro Tools User Certification requires that you display a firm grasp of the core skills, work flows, and concepts of digital audio editing on an Avid Pro Tools system. Whilst it is possible to take the 110 course without having first completed and passed the 101 course, successful completion of the 101 course beforehand entitles you to take the Pro Tools User Certification exam, which, if passed earns Pro Tools Certification status, with many potential career benefits.

Successful completion of which will allow you to describe yourself on CVs and applications as an Avid Certified Professional.

An Avid Certified User credential allows you to:

  • demonstrate your fundamental competency in digital audio editing with the current version of Avid Pro Tools
  • differentiate yourself from competitors and make your CV stand out
  • leverage the power of the Avid brand by using your entitlement of Avid Pro Tools Certified User logos on your digital correspondence and business cards
  • confirm your credentials on Avid's Find a Certified Professional online listing and with a Certificate of Achievement.

Logic Pro X 101

Apple Pro Training Series

Three days hands-on training with assessment exam

This course introduces students to Logic Pro's primary features and basic user interface. Students learn how to generate a customised audio and MIDI configuration that will seamlessly integrate with their own personal production studio. Students also create their own song using Logic Pro's comprehensive array of software instruments, Apple Loops and DSP effects. In-depth lessons cover MIDI and audio recording, streamlined editing and arrangement techniques, user defined key commands, automation, using external MIDI controllers, mixing and creating final output.

Who should attend?

This class is designed for those who want to learn music production and composition using Logic Pro and who prefer hands-on and interactive instruction to best explore its functionality.

Students should have the following prerequisite knowledge before attending the course:

Sibelius 101 - Introduction to Sibelius

Description

This course provides a thorough introduction to the fundamental operations of Sibelius 7.5 and lays the foundation for continuing studies at the more advanced levels. This includes an introduction to the Sibelius interface, basic editing operations, setting up a score and entering notes, importing MIDI, creating a worksheet and more. Sibelius 101 - Introduction to Sibelius is the first crucial step in mastering Sibelius 7.5, the most popular music notation software in use today.

Who should attend

This course is specifically intended for composers, arrangers and publishers.

Prerequisites

  • No prior experience with the system is necessary
  • Familiarity with Macintosh computers is advantageous but not essential
  • A basic understanding of music theory and notation.
  • Included course book will provide a basic introduction to music theory
  • Recommended: A basic ability to read music (even slowly) and keyboard skills.

How does this course enhance attendee's employability or skills?

This is an industry-recognised qualification.

Sibelius 110 - Essentials of Sibelius

Description

This course provides a more detailed look at Sibelius 7.5 above and beyond the knowledge you gained in the Sibelius 101 course. It covers all the key concepts and skills needed to work in Sibelius at the Avid Certified User level. This course, along with the Sibelius 101 - Introduction to Sibelius, provides a complete insight into using Sibelius 7.5 and it’s new features for musicians and composers who already have some Sibelius experience and are looking develop their abilities further.

Who should attend

This course is specifically intended for composers, arrangers and publishers.

Prerequisites

  • Completion of the Sibelius 101 course is not essential for this course but some previous experience is required.
  • Familiarity with Macintosh computers is advantageous but not essential
  • A basic understanding of music theory and notation.
  • Recommended: A basic ability to read music (even slowly) and keyboard skills.

How does this course enhance attendee’s employability or skills?

This is an industry-recognised qualification.
