University of West London Alumni e-Newsletter Winter Edition
University of West London Donors and Scholars Lunch
This year so far, over 270 alumni and friends have supported 75 deserving students through scholarships, bursaries and awards made possible through their donations to the university.
The University is extremely grateful to all the donors whose generosity is even more precious this year in the face of such a tough economic climate.
With severe cuts to higher education expected in the coming years, demand for student support if only set to increase. This sort of assistance from the university’s valued community of friends and alumni will prove critical to maintaining accessibility for the best and most deserving students.
"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generous
contributions that has helped to give me my £1000 bursary. The money
means a lot to me and will help a great deal in buying study aids and
giving me the time to learn a subject that I'm truly inspired by and
love learning about. Thank you"
Alice Green, 2010/11 Recipient of a Nursing Alumni Bursary
In recognition of their generosity, the Vice Chancellor hosted the first Donors and Scholars lunch on the 25th November 2010.
The lunch was held in Pillars restaurant at St Mary’s Road campus and attended by 40 donors and this year’s recipients of scholarships, bursaries and awards.
The event gave the donors who have made a generous contribution to student support an excellent opportunity to meet their student recipients and hear about the profound and transformative difference their gifts have made.
"I am honoured to be the recipient of this year's midwifery alumni award. In these difficult financial times the funds I have received have already provided me with many much needed educational supplies to support me in my future studies as an independent mature student. I'd like to thank all of the donators who have taken their time to support this up-and-coming next generation of healthcare professionals and supplied the funds for these very special awards. My very best thanks."
Carl Treddenick, 2010/2011 of the Midwifery Alumni Bursary
The event was a great success and we hope to make it an annual occasion.
