The Faculty of the Arts Summer Showcase 2010
For the second year running the Faculty of the Arts at University of West London hosted its annual Summer Showcase on campus at St Mary’s Road.
Over three days at the end of May final years students’ work was showcased through live music and dance events, exhibitions and workshops.
The general public, industry contacts as well as alumni and friends were all invited to sample the cream of this year’s crop. Local schools and colleges also got involved in open day sessions including interactive workshops and tours of the university.
This year’s Showcase kicked off in style with an evening of varied entertainment from across the genre’s hosted by the legendary musician Pete Townshend, himself an alum of the University.
The venue for the show saw The Street, usually home to a university café, a bookshop and meeting space, converted into a state of the art catwalk and stage.
After a drinks reception where alumni and friends had the chance to mingle with each other as well as the guest of honour, the show was opened by two Olympian fencers representing the Creative Campus Initiative; a new consortium of thirteen Higher Education Institutions in the South East delivering a dynamic programme of cultural events and artworks in response to the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
The show aimed, which is at celebrating the achievements of our graduating class of 2010, included such exciting performances as a fashion show, musical theatre performance, live music, dance and movement.
As guest of honour, Pete Townshend gave out several awards funded by donations from alumni to recognise outstanding students from the class of 2010. He also said a few words about his time as a student at University of West London, then known as the progressive Ealing Art College.
The evening ended with another reception, this time in one of University of West London's award winning student-run restaurants The Pillars, where the guests, award winners and performers were able to enjoy the post show excitement.
