Faculty of the Arts Summer Showcase- Alumni VIP Evening
This year the Faculty of the Arts brought its annual Summer Showcase back home to the St Mary's Road campus in Ealing for three days. We were delighted that for the first time the Faculty invited its alumni and those of other schools to witness a special evening of dance, music and fashion.
The 2009 Summer Showcase saw the vast range of specialist subject areas that fall under the FoTA umbrella come together under one roof to exhibit and celebrate its very best talent.
Spanning three days in total The Showcase included exhibitions, interactive workshops, dance lessons, music gigs and concerts as well as open day opportunities for local schools and colleges to see what University of West London's Faculty of the Arts has to offer.
The Alumni VIP evening kicked the three days celebration off in a spectacular show that presented the best of music, fashion and dance at University of West London.
The evening began with a reception at the front of the St Mary's Road campus where alumni and other VIP guests were welcomed and entertained by a home grown jazz band from the London College of Music.
The centrepiece was the Showcase which was held in The Street, usually home to a café, student bookshop and meeting area; it had been transformed into a state of the art runway, supported by an excellent sound and light system.
The catwalk was the stage for a fashion show, dance and various music performances on the night, including an impromptu performance by University of West London Honorary Professor and renowned session pianist Rick Wakeman who treated us to a live rendition of Cat Stevens' Morning has broken.
Awards were also given to recognise the achievements of outstanding students from the class of 2009 including the Art and Design Awards, Junior College Music Award, Final Year General Contribution Music Award, Media Award and The Westminster Award.
The evening was rounded off at an after show reception hosted in University of West London's student-run award winning restaurant The Pillars, where guests, award winners and performers were able to enjoy the buzz of the celebrations.
