University of West London Annual Charity Dinner and Dance
This regularly oversubscribed annual charity event was first established over 20 years ago by the School of Hospitality and Tourism (HT) in conjunction with the Society of Stars, in order to help raise funds for the School and its students.
It is organised, cooked and waited entirely by HT students under the supervision of professional chefs and this year HT alumnus and Head Chef at the Royal Garden Hotel, Steve Munkley was on hand to oversee the kitchen.
On this occasion we were able to offer a limited number of tickets to members of our alumni association to sit at the Alumni tables and we had 24 guests altogether.
After a last minute cancellation a competition was also held giving alumni the chance to win two pairs of tickets worth £90 each. Our winning alumni were Susan Tunnacliffe, (Midwifery, class of '99') and Robin Chuter (European Studies, class of '95').
The 2009 Dinner and Dance event took place at a particularly important milestone for the School as 2009 is the 60th anniversary of the founding of Acton Hotel School.
Although an official lunch event is taking place to commemorate the 60th anniversary later this year, the guest speaker Vic Laws, a 1950's graduate himself, took the opportunity to focus on the historic successes of the School by way of prominent alumni who had graduated in each decade since its founding.
Celebrity Chef and Honorary of the School Brian Turner also participated to give the vote of thanks at the end of the meal.
The date for next year's ball has been set for Friday 29 January 2010.
