Which Internet Browsers work with Blackboard?
On Windows PCs Blackboard is compatible with
- Internet Explorer 8 or 9
- Firefox
- Chrome
On a Mac, Blackboard is compatible with
- Safari 4 and/or 5 (depending on operating system)
- Firefox
- Chrome
For both Macs and PCs, the level of compatibility is affected by which operating system you are using e.g. Windows XP or Vista.
See full details: Release 9.1 SP9 Supported Browsers & Operating Systems
Turnitin supports a similar set of browsers - see Turnitin Supported Web Browsers
Please note that as a result of the upgrade to Blackboard 9.1 SP8, Blackboard is now compatible with the most recent version of Internet Explorer, IE9, and with Google Chrome.
Older versions of Internet Explorer - specifically IE6 and 7 - are not compatible with the latest version of Blackboard.
America Online (AOL) users may not be able access Blackboard properly using the AOL browser. It is recommended that if you use AOL to connect to the Internet, you should use another browser to log on to Blackboard.
- Sign on to AOL as usual, but stay at the AOL Main (Welcome) page
- Keep AOL running, but minimise the AOL window. Open your secondary browser - e.g. Internet Explorer or Firefox - and use this to go to http://online.uwl.ac.uk
