Looking for jobs can appear to be a very daunting process often conjuring up lots of questions:
- Do I want to work full-time or part-time?
- Where do I find vacancies?
- Do I have the relevant skills, experience and qualifications?
Preparation is the key
Keeping up to date records of all your work experience, paid or voluntary, new awards/achievements and qualifications will help you when writing your CV.
Think about the skills you have acquired - what are you good at?
Often skills you have gained from other areas of your life are transferable and may prove to be very useful in a variety of jobs.
Take these factors into account when job hunting:
- your skills and academic qualifications
- why you want the job
- the skills needed for the job
- make sure that you illustrate your skills positively, remembering to write about your transferable skills such as IT, communication and negotiation skills as well as any technical skills gained at University.
