BA (Hons) Event Management with Hospitality

Course summary

If you want to work in the events sector – either working for a company or starting your own business – this course will teach you how to organise events with a particular focus on the hospitality provision.

We take advantage of our London location, giving you the opportunity to attend high-profile events and a variety of venues to gain exposure to the industry in action. As well as live event projects, you’ll learn through practical teaching such as case studies and team projects, to understand the fundamentals of event management.

With a core understanding of the intricacies of event management combined with the hospitality industry, and exposure to an array of events across London, you will gain transferable skills for a range of careers in international or UK events management.

You may also wish to undertake postgraduate study to specialise in a subject you’ve already studied, or to explore something new.

Course detail

This course is aimed at those who want to develop a career in the planning and management of events, with a particular focus on hospitality. Event modules are complemented by hospitality and business modules, exploring areas such as the provision and management of food and beverage service or production, managing people, project management, sales and marketing, and accounting.

Year one (Level 4) modules

Year two (Level 5) modules

  • Applied Events Management

  • Restaurant and Management of Functions
  • International Beverage Provision
  • Food Culture and Society.

Year three (Level 6) modules

  • Event Impact, Legacies and Regeneration
  • Strategic Management
  • Service Operations Management
  • Contemporary Issues and Management of Change
  • Service Industries Dissertation or Business Project.

Plus one option from:

  • Managing the Event Workforce
  • Managing the Events Venue.

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • 260 UCAS points normally in a minimum of two subject areas
  • plus GCSE English and Maths at grade A*- C, or equivalent.

International students

International students need to meet our English language requirement at either IELTS at 6.0 or above and a minimum of 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).

  • Full Time Undergraduate Bursary: a £3,000 award for new undergraduate students.
  • Path to Success Scholarship: a £4,000 award for students on a four-year degree course with a foundation year.

Teaching staff

Our staff are a mixture of practitioners and academics, all of who have considerable event management experience, both nationally and internationally. This includes corporate travel planning with GlaxoSmithKline, corporate hospitality with Epsom Racecourse, Twickenham and Wimbledon, consultancy work with MPI, Business Director for weddings, representative for cycling at the Atlanta Olympics and management of a host of gala, festival and fundraising events.

All our staff are actively involved in the industry, running their own events each year. Our academics include a National Teaching Fellow, a Master in Teaching and Learning, an author of a ground-breaking textbook, and many other contributors to event management textbooks and research articles in major academic event journals.
