AES Electronic Library

The Audio Engineering Society is the professional society devoted exclusively to audio technology. It is an international organisation that unites audio engineers, creative artists, scientists and students worldwide by promoting advances in audio and disseminating new knowledge and research. American Chemical Society Legacy Archives 1879-1995

The founders of chemical research publications in the United States, the American Chemical Society have been working as experts in their field since creating their first journal in 1879. Since that date, the society has gone on to publish hundreds of papers and journals, with over 460,000 digitised articles currently available in their archive. This back catalogue of ACS publications include works by a number of well-known authors and Nobel Prize winners, such as the pioneer of quantum chemistry and molecular biology, Linus Pauling, the groundbreaking polymer specialist, Hermann Staudinger, and the physicist Steven Chu.  This collection is particularly suitable for specialists in the advanced fields of chemistry, chemical engineering and related subjects.

Provides a gateway to archives held at over 220 UK universities, colleges and research institutes. It doesn’t hold any archival material itself, but provides a way of cross-searching archival descriptions.

British Education Index (BEI)

This collection covers all aspects of educational policy and administration, evaluation and assessment, technology and special educational needs. Indexing British education journals, theses and more, this resource is searchable by educational level and age group. Sources in the British Education Index include education and training journals, mostly published in the UK, along with some international literature. Also included is an education thesaurus with over 10,000 terms, over 770 of which are British-specific for education.

An online gateway to specialist subject resources, with fully cross-searchable access to reference text and image content. Resources include:

Box of Broadcasts (BoB)

An extensive off-air recording and media archive service provided by the British Universities Film and Video Council (BUFVC). It allows you to request off-air recording of (freeview) TV and radio programmes due to be broadcast in the coming seven days, or which have been broadcast in the previous seven days. BoB stores previously-recorded TV and radio programmes in an archive. The archive currently offers over 120,000 TV and radio programmes covering all subjects.

New users should register their individual email addresses on first usage.

The nationally recognised source of information on medicines and their use. There is also the BNF for Children. Jointly produced by the British Medical Association and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. It is revised biannually.

British  & Irish Legal Information Institute (BAILII)

Free access to primary law materials arranged as 76 databases, covering seven jurisdictions, including the UK, Ireland and the EU. As a result of the Open Law Project, it has access to leading judgments identified by academics, arranged by subject. Includes decisions of the Privy Council, House of Lords and Court of Appeal, and other important courts of Scottish and Irish jurisdictions. There is legislation from three jurisdictions and recent reports from the Law Commission of England & Wales. The service is a major legal research tool used by solicitors and barristers.

There is facility to search peer-reviewed (scholarly) journals, and pdf images are given for most of the content. Journals in full text exceed 5,000. EBSCOhost is the platform and host to 11 individual databases, including Academic Search Elite (arts & science), Business Source Premier (marketing and management), CINAHL (nursing), Communication and Mass Media Complete and Hospitality and Tourism Complete. As well as journal articles in full text, many of the databases provide other non-journal content in full text, such as market research reports, industry reports, country economic reports (EIU) and SWOT analyses.

English Law Reports

176-volumes, published between 1900 and 1930, representing all law reports published in England before the establishment of the ICLR Law Reports in 1865. It contains virtually the entire body of English case law from the Middle Ages until 1865 – approx. 100,000 cases.

Entertainment Industry Magazine Archive (EIMA)

The Entertainment Industry Magazine Archive 1880-2000 is an essential research resource for the history of the film, music and entertainment industries.

The core US and UK trade magazines covering film, music, broadcasting and theatre are all included, together with film fan magazines and music press titles:  for example; Billboard (1894-2000), Broadcasting (1931-2000), Melody Maker (1926-2000), New Musical Express (1946-2000), The Stage (1880-2000), and Variety (1905-2000), among many others.
