Clearing 2017: Join the university with the best Students’ Union in UK

In the new National Student Survey 2017 (NSS), the UWL Students’ Union (UWLSU) comes top of the class as the best of any university in the UK, which is great news for students who join via Clearing this year.

With an ethos of ‘by students, for students’, UWLSU offers a wealth of clubs, societies and events which cater for just about every interest and passion; so many opportunities exist for meeting like-minded people and sharing good times together.

A wide variety of sports is catered for at UWLSU Varsity home ground Trailfinders, including rugby, football, basketball, netball, hockey and many more. Keeping fit is no problem at UWL, with a state of the art gym available to work out in. Meanwhile, a host of societies exist covering issues as diverse and varied as liberation, culture, interfaith and performance. There is also Blast Radio – the university’s student-led radio station.

At the headquarters of the vibrant UWLSU at the Ealing campus is located Freddie’s Bar, named after the one and only legendary rock singer, Freddie Mercury – who once studied at the site. It’s the perfect place for socialising and hanging out with friends.

The NSS 2017 has also voted UWL as the best in the UK for student voice – perfectly illustrating that the community of undergraduates and postgraduates really is at the heart of everything the university does.

But of course, there can also be challenges while studying, which is why UWL has a dedicated team of professionals to provide assistance in Student Services.

This team’s ethos is to create a frontline service for students which provides advice, guidance and support before, during and after studies. Students can ask expert advisers for help with accommodation, funding and immigration, scholarships and bursaries, hardship and emergency funds, mental health, disability, counselling, work placements and much more. There is also valuable careers help available for job applications, drawing up CVs, composing cover letters and use of social media.

Importantly, the Wellbeing team provide a confidential support service for all UWL students and prospective students who have a disability, a specific learning difficulty or a long term medical condition. Students can access alternative exam provision, learning support and library support, assistance with applying for Disability Support Allowance (DSA) and more.
