UWL’s excellence in teaching quality and student experience shines in national University Guide
The University of West London (UWL) has been ranked an impressive 1st place in London for teaching quality and student experience in the latest Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018, soaring ahead of its competitors – old and new – in one of the most crowded spaces in the sector.
The high quality standard of education at UWL was recognised by a huge leap in student satisfaction with teaching quality placing UWL No.1 in London and in the top seven nationally on this key measure. Underlining the university’s commitment to putting students at the centre of everything we do, UWL was ranked No.1 in London for student experience and in the top 14 in the UK.
In the complete league table, UWL was top modern university in London, No.8 modern university in the UK and 56th overall in the UK.
Commenting on the good news, UWL Vice Chancellor, Professor Peter John said: 'Our outstanding performance overall, but particularly on these two key measures – teaching quality and student experience, is excellent news. It is all the more relevant at this time of year when thousands of new students are arriving on our campuses, they can be assured of having made the right choice and look forward to a rewarding and transformative experience with us.
'We intend to build upon this success and become the best contemporary university in the UK, by continuing to place students at the heart of everything we do and delivering the very best experience through continued investment in infrastructure, academic staff and curriculum.'
It has been an excellent year for the University - it achieved a Silver award in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) in June, recognising its strategic and innovative approach to curriculum, teaching excellence linked to employability and focus upon a positive student experience leading to excellent outcomes for its students. This was followed by NSS 2017 in August which rated the university as the best modern university in London for overall student satisfaction.* It was also rated number one in London in NSS 2017 in the core areas of teaching, learning opportunities, assessment and feedback, academic support and learning community.
UWL has invested more than £150million in its three sites, providing for students modern, spacious social and learning spaces and state-of-the-art facilities including an industry-standard student radio station, two ultra modern nursing simulation centres, enviable music performance spaces and unrivalled music practice studios.
