Our Institute for Research brings together excellence in research in our well established Research centres.
It also provides a culture and framework for sharing research with our external colleagues in the professions and academe.
Focused research in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare include:
The Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008, which evaluates the quality of British research, showed University of West London to be among just three London universities to climb 17 places or more from the previous RAE.
The University was the 14th most improved in England and the 18th most improved in the UK.
Significantly, University of West London was among the top 20 universities nationally for its Nursing and Midwifery research, with ten per cent of its work rated as four star or world leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour, while another 65% was judged as internationally excellent (three star) or internationally recognised (two star).

The School of Nursing and Midwifery
Led by Dr Steve Trenoweth, research is focused on delivery of evidence-based care to patients and pre-and-post registration education.
Centre for Research in Midwifery and Childbirth
The
Centre for Research in Midwifery and Childbirth is led by Professor Chris McCourt.
It focuses on evidence-based practice, educational development, and the implementation of women-centred health policy.
It also collaborates with the
Joanna Briggs Institute.
Richard Wells Research Centre
The
Richard Wells Research Centre was established in 1995 to develop research and educational initiatives within the field of caring for patients with HIV disease.
Its remit broadened to include prevention and care issues around infectious diseases and healthcare-associated infections (HCAI).
