Learning Disabilities Nursing
If you want to work in an environment that's interesting, rewarding and challenging, a career in nursing is worth considering.
People with learning disabilities often have a wide range of physical and mental health conditions.
Learning disability nurses work in partnership with them and family carers to provide specialist healthcare.
Their main aim is to support the well-being and social inclusion of people with a learning disability by
- improving or maintaining their physical and mental health
- by reducing barriers
- supporting the person to pursue a fulfilling life.
The learning disabilities nursing branch will enable students to assess and assist individuals with learning disabilities within a standardised structure of care delivery.
Students will also be taught appropriate skills for supporting families.
Students will be able to critically evaluate the design and implementation of evidence-based clinical interventions as a means to act as a change agent.
Unlike other degree programmes, nursing students from the UK/EU benefit from paid tuition fees and generous bursaries (this is dependent on students having an NHS funded place and meet residential regulations).
