Mental Health Nursing

If you want to work in an environment that's interesting, rewarding and challenging, a career in nursing is worth considering.

As many as one in three people has a mental health problem at some point in their life, regardless of their age or background.

Conditions range from personality and psychological disorders to neuroses and psychoses.

For many, mental illness is brought on by a crisis in life, which they can't cope with, such as depression after the death of a partner.

Mental health nurses form therapeutic relationships with mentally ill people and their families.

Mental health nurses can be at the forefront in improving the mental health and well being of individuals and families.

This is a valuable role that provides much reward and satisfaction.

Regrettably there is still some stigma attached to mental illness.

Combating this and helping the individuals and their families deal with it is a key part of the job.

This programme will enable students to learn the skills to participate fully in meeting the needs of individuals with mental health problems, and where appropriate, working with their families.

Unlike other degree programmes, nursing students from the UK/EU benefit from paid tuition fees and generous bursaries (this is dependent on students having an NHS funded place and meet residential regulations).
