In this lecture, Professor Fanghanel will discuss her research on academic work and identities.
She will reflect on the impact on academics of the liberal forms of governance that have come to prevail in UK higher education over the past two decades or so.
She will show that academics' responses to what has been broadly referred to as 'managerialism' is complex, and not of one piece.
She will argue that a rich, critical and empowering potential exists within the academy to counteract the neoliberal stance.
She will explore educational directions that can harness this potential to produce graduates who can navigate a complex world and realise their potential within it.
