Choirs at London College of Music (LCM) - Autumn 2012
There are three choral classes each Monday at the University of West London:
Choral Techniques
4.30pm - 5.20pm on Mondays in Lawrence Hall
Open to all: an introduction to singing in ensembles – we will cover aural skills, improvisation, sight-reading, blend, balance, conducting, stylistic awareness, and many other skills involved in ensemble singing – this is not a 'learn to sing' course, but more 'learn to make music while singing' – the choral techniques class does not perform in public
LCM Chorus
5.20pm - 6.50pm on Mondays in Lawrence Hall
Open to all: students, staff and members of the local community – singing a wide range of
classical and light repertoire – performing as much as possible from memory – there's no audition, but the conductor may ask you to sing a few scales to make sure you're in the right section (soprano / mezzo / alto / tenor / baritone / bass) – if you're a student taking choir as your compulsory ensemble, this is the group you need to be in
LCM Chamber Choir
7.00pm - 8.30pm on Mondays in TC272
Membership by audition: performing advanced repertoire, usually a cappella – concerts in
various venues in the London area in addition to regular LCM appearances – Monday 8 October will be an open 'try-out' rehearsal for Chamber Choir (all welcome).
Auditions will be held on Monday 15 October – regular rehearsals thereafter.
LCM Chorus members are encouraged to attend Choral Techniques too
LCM Chamber Choir members are encouraged to sing with LCM Chorus too but it is also acceptable to attend just one of the groups.
First rehearsal of the semester is Monday 8 October 2012, then we meet every week up to and including Monday 10 December preparing for our performances on Wednesday 12 December.
1.15pm preview performance in The Street (UWL St Mary's Road)
6.00pm Christmas concert at St Matthew's Church, Ealing Common, London W5
