Hospitality students take part in a panel discussion at the Houses of Parliament

Thursday 03 November 2011

Students from the University's London School of Hospitality and Tourism were invited to attend a special panel discussion at the Houses of Parliament.

Part-time BA International Culinary Arts students studying food policy as part of their final year modules attended the discussion entitled 'Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security' on 2 November 2011.

The discussion took place in the Houses of Parliament's Committee Room 10 and was led by Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and President of the Mary Robinson Foundation - Climate Justice and the UN Secretary General's Special Representative on Food and Security, David Nabarro.

The lively discussion was facilitated by Channel 4 news presenter Jon Snow and included contributions from a range of experts including MPs and NGOs.

Commenting on the discussion, Andy Gately, Senior Lecturer at the University's London School of Hospitality and Tourism said:

'I am delighted that the students were able to make a real contribution to this discussion.  The students commented on how it had enhanced their understanding of many of the issues discussed in the module and made them realise how such subjects were actually being debated at the highest of national and international levels.'
