Students to honour the music of our armed forces

Monday 19 March 2012

Students from the University's London College of Music will be collaborating with the Band of the Scots Guards to perform at a concert showcasing their incredible musical talent.

The concert will take place on 29 March 2012 at 7.30pm in St Mary's Church Ealing and will include a diverse and dynamic programme of music.

The woodwind, brass and percussion ensembles at the London College of Music have been working in a series of workshops with the Band of the Scots Guard, including the music of Nigel Hess' 'East Coast Pictures' and Kenneth Hasketh's 'Masque'.

In preparation for the concert, students will have the exciting opportunity to attend the Band of the Scots Guard's at Wellington Barracks in central London, to rehearse with the band.

The concert and the workshop series is designed to promote awareness amongst music graduates about full time instrumental careers in the Army.  The concert will provide students with the experience of working with a prestigious and renowned organisation and helping to raise funds for Help for Heroes.

Commenting on the concert, Major Simon Haw, Programme Leader for the London College of Music's MMus Performance course, said:

'I hope the students of London College of Music have a fantastic time working with the Band of the Scots Guards.  We are certainly looking forward to the collaboration very much; the concert promises to be a fine evening of Symphonic Wind Band Music.'
