Friday 27 April 2012
Students studying events at the University will be offering the public the opportunity to transport themselves back to the 1930s with a special themed event.
Eventastic Brentford, in aid of the Brentford Toy Library will take place on Saturday 28 April 2012 at the GWQ Piazza in Brentford and will be a day that will celebrate the best aspects of the 1930s.
The day will begin with the much loved and traditional Punch and Judy show followed by juggling, modelling and a magic show for all the family. Other exciting activities will include a cupcake demonstration and the chance to decorate and personalise cakes.
In the evening guests will have a nostalgic experience of the 30's as talented jazz band Jogo will perform music from the era accompanied by dancers.
The delivery of this event is the culmination of the Event Bidding module, which forms part of the Event Management course at the University of West London. In semester one second year students got to devise and create a group event to take place at the GWQ Piazza in Brentford. Following their event pitch to the client- Barratt Homes and the Mainstay Residential Management Group - the winning team were selected and awarded the opportunity to deliver their event as part of the Live Event Management module, which runs in semester two.
Commenting on the event, Senior Event Management lecturer, Liz Quick, said:
'The students' event concept of 'Back to the 30s' was very well received by the client, as it was totally in keeping with the art deco style of the original building, Wallis House, as well as an interesting and inspiring idea. The students have worked incredibly hard and overcome a number of obstacles to deliver what promises to be an excellent fun day for all ages. This event will certainly put the students’ practical skills and event planning knowledge to the test!'
Tickets can be purchased at the door at a cost of £5 per adult. Children up to the age of 12 will have free entry. Refreshments and light snacks will be available to purchase on the day.
