LCM brings 'Closer than Ever' to Ealing's Questors Playhouse in February

Tuesday 29 January 2013

Final year musical theatre students at London College of Music are to perform the off-Broadway hit musical Closer than Ever at the Questors Playhouse in Ealing from 20 February to 2 March 2013.

The production is directed by Daryl Branch with musical direction from George Carter. It forms part of LCM Live's 2013 season following the successful run of the new musical Quill by Fergus O'Reilly and Den Stevenson.

Closer than Ever, a musical revue in two acts, features a series of self-contained songs dealing with topics such as marital strife and unrequited love. The musical has won numerous awards, including the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway and has been nominated for the Drama Desk Award.

David Henson, M.Ed, Field Leader for Performing Arts and Course Leader for BA Musical Theatre at London College of Music, said; ‘Closer than Ever is one of a series of challenging productions for this season and enables the work of the actor-singer to be revealed in some intimate and captivating scenes. After our hugely successful run at Watermans Theatre in Brentford during January, we now look forward to attracting a new audience and playing within a different performance venue – the studio theatre at Questors. The intense three week rehearsal period for this production is contrasting to the lengthy rehearsal of the previous productions; we look forward to seeing much of those rehearsal skills being put into practice in an efficient and exciting manner.'

Sara Raybould, MMus, Director of London College of Music, said; 'We are committed to developing and enhancing the cultural life in our local community; that's why we have chosen the Questors Playhouse for this revival of Closer than Ever. This production will be an opportunity for musicians, stage managers, sound technicians and designers to contribute to yet another exciting event within the extensive season of performance events at London College of Music'

This production will feature students from BA Musical Theatre, BA Music Technology, BA Theatre Production, BMus Performance and MMus Music Management. It forms an integral part of LCM's commitment to ensuring students have real-time work experience in a live original theatre environment.
