Biography:

 

Robert studied at the Royal Northern College of Music. He began his career as an opera singer in the UK and all over Europe with Northern Ireland Opera, Kent Opera, Voltface and Sicily Opera and performed the Oratorio repertoire with The London Mozart Players, Les Arts Baroque and Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra. He has performed with The London Pops Orchestra at The Royal Albert Hall and around England, performing songs from the Musical Theatre repertoire.  As a singing teacher he was head of singing at The Urdang from 1993-96, then head of singing at Elmhurst in 1996-2002. He went to Spain from 2002-06 to be Musical Director in several musicals, and achieved best musical in Spain 2006 for Tarzan. He also worked as Musical Director on Swan Lake the Musical and a new version of Beauty and the Beast both of which toured Spain and Mallorca. He returned to England to teach at the Urdang in 2006- 13 as a senior singing teacher. He has worked as a musical director on West Side Story, Sweet Charity Bugsy Malone, Godspell and Pippin. He taught singing at The Centre for Performing Arts from 2013 -16.

He teaches at the The Royal Holloway, University of London from 2015 and is Director of Music at St John’s Hyde Park, where he has 8 post graduates, opera students drawn from the Royal College, Royal Academy, Guildhall and Trinity College of Music. He conducts St John’s Chamber Orchestra made up of players from many of the London Orchestras. The leader is Jonathan Hill who is the leader of Les Miserables.
