What is an Apprenticeship?

In support of the Government’s new initiative to develop the UK Work force’s higher skills, The Claude Littner Business School at the University of West London is offering a Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA). This is part of the Degree Apprenticeship programme, a new government and industry scheme which offers the guarantee of a high quality degree, on-the job experience and a professional pathway for development.

Developed by a group of 20 businesses led by Serco, the CMDA produces managers with the management skills and qualities required by employers of all sizes and from all sectors. The programme is tailored to the needs of the working day, balancing education and business demands.

Management apprentices follow a programme developed with the Small Business Charter, part of the Chartered Association of Business Schools, ensuring they earn degrees from renowned universities and business schools.

Apprentices become affiliate members of the Chartered Management Institute, and will reach Chartered Manager status by the end of their apprenticeship.

Who is the CMDA for?

The Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship provides on-the-job education for non-graduate managers and school leavers alike to gain a management degree and professional accreditation.

Degree content

The CMDA is a dual award and the degree will include the following subject areas:

  • Strategic Management
  • Project Management
  • Human Resource Management
  • Global Marketing
  • Research Business Data
  • International Business
  • Cross Cultural Management
  • Managerial Finance
  • Hospitality Management.
How will your employee be assessed?
  • Regular on-programme assessment of knowledge, skills and behaviours, involving the employer and the University
  • Development of a portfolio demonstrating learning and development activities, as well as their application in the workplace
  • End-point assessment, reviewing their full achievements during the apprenticeship
    including:

    • review of portfolio of evidence
    • review of work-based project
    • presentation and interview.

September 2017.

Duration

Between 3-4 ½ years to complete, depending on experience.

Location

It combines workplace training and study at the University.

How is it funded?

The apprenticeship is funded either through the apprenticeship levy for levy paying employers or through dual funding with government for non-levy employers. Please request further information from our team. The University will fund the CMI student registration fee.

Entry requirements

Applicants will be expected to hold A levels (or equivalent) or existing relevant Level 3 qualifications. Other relevant or prior experience may also be considered as an alternative. They should also have achieved qualifications in English and mathematics at a minimum of Level 2 or equivalent, and also demonstrate Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills at this level.
