Our expert facilities

Our students have access to the University's state of the art facilities to enhance their learning, simulate real-world work environments and teach skills needed for future careers.

  • Blast Radio studio

    Blast Radio studios simulate contemporary commercial radio operations. Students use the studio during their course, as well as throughout the year on our student-run station, Blast FM.

    The Digital Print Bureau has state of the art workstations, fully colour calibrated professional screens and a wealth of cutting-edge software. Students can create professional-grade images from our printers, and also have access to top-range scanning machines.

    The photographic darkroom is geared toward crossover experimentation between traditional and digital processes. We give training on digital negatives, cyanotypes, salt printing, bromoil process and liquid emulsion.

    Our two photography studios are inter-linked to allow for larger shoots, and they are equipped with Profoto flash lighting, Hasselblad H4D50s (high-end medium format digital cameras), background rolls, and other tools needed to produce professional-grade work.

    The white screen production studio has full technical support and lighting equipment.

  • Green screen production studio

    The TV Studio and Gallery space lets students bring to life a range of projects in multiple disciplines. Equipment includes a lighting grid with DMX lighting control, green and white screens, Ross Crossover Vision Mixer for live editing and audio and video recorder / playback devices.

    Our students can mine the expertise of our dedicated Technical Demonstrators through demos like this one with our motion capture system. These hands-on lessons give students practice using the latest technology used in industry.

    Our Media Resource Centre is available to all LSFMD students for free. We hold a variety of cameras, lights, sound equipment and recording devices. Students can also loan equipment demonstrated in class.

    Part of providing our students the best education possible is giving them access to the latest industry tools being used to invent, create and push the boundaries of film, fashion and design. Our MakerBot 3D printer lets students see their custom designs come to life.

    Our printmaking design studio holds workshops on paper screen printing, lino printing, mono printing, dry point etching and bookbinding. These tools allow students to experiment with graphic reproduction, creating their own original designs.

  • Silkscreen and print making studio

    The print studios include facilities for silkscreen printing used for our graphic design, photography and fashion and textiles courses.

  • Fashion textiles workshop

    We have all of the facilities needed to design and create garments. Our pattern cutting room is equipped with high tables and mannequins.

    The sewing room has industrial sewing machines for creating collections.

    The knitting machine room allows our students to design and create their own complex knitwear.

  • Sound studios

    Our students have access to the University's range of audio facilities, including recording studios and music practice rooms.

  • The new library offers computer labs, silent and group study spaces and a wealth of study resources available.
