Overview

The aim of this accredited course is to equip you with a solid grounding in the sciences underpinning infection prevention and control, including:

  • theoretical and practical microbiology
  • mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance
  • sources and transmission of infection types
  • immunology and host defences
  • incidence and impact of healthcare-associated infections.

Please note, this CPD course is only available to those currently working as Infection Prevention and Control Practitioners. 

It is not a standalone module but forms the IPC pathway as part of a Post Grad Dip/MSc and must be taken as one of three specialist IPC modules, together with the modules, Infection prevention and control in clinical practice (NS70117W) and Driving improvements in infection prevention and control (NS70115W)​.

Course requirements: Evidence of study at Level 6 (Degree Level).

Cost and funding: This fee covers the full course cost.

  • Sept 23 - Aug 24 fees: £900
  • Sept 24 - Aug 25 fees: TBC

Credits: 20

Assessment method: Risk assessment in a specific department/group of patients in your own workplace, analysing patient risk factors, the main pathogens involved and primary routes of transmission (100%).
