This 18-month full-time route has been designed for Nursing Associates registered with the NMC*, who wish to become an adult nurse, recognising prior certified learning.
The course is approved against the Nursing and Midwifery Council Future Nurse: Standards of Proficiency for Registered Nurses (May 2018). These standards set out the knowledge and skills that you will learn to enable you to deliver world-class, person-centred, evidence-based care.
Upon completion of the course, you will be eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as an Adult Nurse.
This course will prepare you to care for adults of all ages (aged 18+), who are recovering from an accident or acute illness, learning to live with a chronic health condition or at the end of their lives. You will also learn how to empower people to make a difference in their own physical and mental health.
This course is offered at both our Ealing campus and Berkshire Institute for Health in Fountain House which is in the heart of Reading. As you will spend half your course gaining experience on placement, you should choose a course location that you can travel to easily - please select the correct option when applying.

Course detail & modules
You will spend equal amounts of time studying and in practice, including in hospital and out of hospital settings. Our simulation centres will help you practise your clinical skills in a safe environment. You will reflect the values expected in contemporary nursing practice (The Code, NMC 2018) and the NHS Constitution.
On this course you will learn how to deliver care to the high standards set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The aim is to equip you with the skills and knowledge to face the challenges of nursing in the twenty-first century.
You will learn how to:
- provide, lead and coordinate care that is compassionate and evidence-based
- care for people in healthcare settings, including their own home, in the community and in hospital
- help promote health, protect health and prevent ill health
- empower people, communities and populations to take control of their own health decisions and behaviours
- care for people of different ages, backgrounds, cultures and beliefs
- care for people with complex mental, physical, cognitive and behavioural care needs
- care for people at the end of their life
- work across health- and social care services
- play a proactive role in multidisciplinary teams
- think critically and apply your knowledge and skills
- provide expert, evidence-based nursing care
- be emotionally intelligent and resilient, while managing your personal health and wellbeing.

We will provide a supportive learning environment to help you gain confidence as you develop your skills. You will learn using high-tech, innovative resources that make your classes fun and engaging. In addition, you will have:

- access to a variety of practice placements, thanks to our many partners.
Adult nursing placement partners
Your placement is an essential part of your course. It will give you practical experience so that you can apply what you learn in a real-world setting.

The Science of Nursing Decision-Making
The aim of this module is to develop the knowledge and skills gained in Year 1 underpinning patient assessment, which informs clinical decision making.

Leading and Managing Nursing Care
The aim of this module is to develop an appreciation of the value of teamwork, and the skills to practice collaboratively to build and maintain relationships through professional networking and leadership.

Enhancing Professional Practice
The aim of this module is to prepare you for your role as a registered nurse. You will develop and enhance the communication and procedural skills gained in years 1 and 2. The module links to the Semester 2 module Transitioning to Being a Registrant.

Art and Science of Person-Centred Care
The aim of this module is to embed knowledge and skills and focus on increasing complexity in decision making. This to enable you to develop the confidence to involve and empower patients in shared decision making and the co-production of person-centred care.

Leading Innovation and Improvement in Nursing Practice
You will develop your skills, knowledge and behaviour for management, leadership and innovation. This is the ‘dissertation’ module.

Transitioning to Being a Registrant
You will be able to transition from student to registered nurse in your final year and to practice as professionals within the NMC Code in a variety of health and social care environments.

Part 3 Nursing Practice
Entry requirements
- This course is available to candidates who have successfully completed either a 'Health Education England' or NMC curriculum Nursing Associate Foundation Degree
- You must hold registration with the NMC as a Nursing Associate
- You need GCSE English and Maths (grade 9 – 4 / A* - C) or Level 2 equivalents
Foundation Degree Nursing Associate (usually completed within 4 years of the start date of the BNursing (Hons) course).
You will be asked to provide a satisfactory reference along with your application form.
All offers are subject to satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and occupational health checks.

Fees & funding
The fee above is the cost per year of your course.
If your course runs for two years or more, you will need to pay the fee for each academic year at the start of that year. If your course runs for less than two years, the cost above is for your full course and you will need to pay the full fee upfront.
