Former Chevron Sri Lanka head honoured for work supporting the next generation

An internationally recognised business leader who was named the youngest Sri Lankan to head up a truly multi-national organisation has received an honorary degree from the University of West London.   

Kishu Gomes was presented with the title of Honorary Doctor of Business Administration during a ceremony at Twickenham Stadium this week following decades of work to make positive change for all key stakeholders.   

The award-winning leader has decades of experience with US multinationals Coca-Cola and Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC where he was the longest-serving CEO and Managing Director - being ranked one of the top CEOs in Sri Lanka for superior business performance thus economic value creation for the country and for his tremendous contribution to uplift the standards of young professionals.   

Kishu served as President of the American Chamber of Commerce and on the Advisory Board of the International Music Foundation where he supported talented youth in art and culture.  

He was also the Chairman of HIV & AIDS national business coalition and a director of the AIDS Foundation of Sri Lanka.    

Not only has he dedicated his career to supporting young people as they seek to transform their futures, but he played a significant role in developing the tourism industry in Sri Lanka and took a lead in the industry recovery following the Eater Sunday terrorist attack.     

Presenting the award in recognition of Kishus’ work supporting young people as they transform their futures, Dr Suresh Gamlath, Dean of UWL’s Claude Littner Business School, said:

Not only has he carved out an impressive career for himself, but has been instrumental in sustaining tourism activity in Sri Lanka, and done a great deal to support young people and disadvantaged youth to succeed no matter what their background.   

We are immensely proud to present this award and celebrate what has been an impressive and inspiring career which we know will serve as a huge inspiration to so many of our students as they collect their degrees today and begin to carve out their own futures."
