MEC helps Advertising & PR students get ready for the future

Students at MEC

BA (Hons) Advertising & Public Relations students enjoyed a master-class from industry experts at the media agency MEC to inspire them for working on live briefs – real-world projects set by the company for students which could be put to commercial use.

The open day exclusively for London School of Film, Media and Design (LSFMD) students at the company’s offices by the River Thames in central London, featured experts from MEC and Snapchat – the popular social media app for mobile devices. There was also a networking event which was an opportunity for undergraduates to discuss career options and forge valuable industry contacts.

Maria D’Souza, MEC Content Partner and industry advisor to the University of West London’s advertising and PR course said: ‘At MEC we believe talent is key to the survival and future growth of our business and our industry, and I see this initiative as a great way to support new talent in their first foray into advertising. Hosting the students is not only inspiring and fun but also a learning experience for everyone involved.’

Kristin Brewe, Course Leader of the BA (Hons) Advertising & PR course, said: ‘While we can teach students a lot of things about communications in the classroom, visiting the world-class agencies we have here in London brings all those lessons to life. MEC gave students a lot of insight that will not only help with their current projects, but also with shaping their futures.’

The open day at MEC were beneficial for coursework and career development, according to students who took part.

Third-year student Roxanne Pratley said: ‘It was amazing to get insight into how an agency like MEC works internally. They gave us great insider tips on how to answer our briefs. The graduates were also really helpful in advising us on how to get our foot in the door.’

Third-year student Afsune Rezaei said: ‘MEC’s friendly and inspiring team gave me the encouragement to go further with my ideas and goals to ensure that I make the best decisions and have the best opportunities available to me after graduation.’
