Introduction

After finally landing his dream job at the age of 49, a newly qualified nurse says it is all down to the faith he had in returning to education and retraining to help others.

Orlando Chin graduated as a registered nurse, and is already working in his dream role in the NHS after completely turning his life around, giving up his career in IT and moving to the UK where he could follow his dreams with UWL.

He was even shortlisted for a prestigious Student Nursing Times award after going above and beyond to care for dementia patients during study placements over the past three years.

Orlando says that while his new life may be a far cry from his previous career in computer science back in Portugal, he knows it is a decision he will never regret.

Nurse shows it’s never too late to follow your dreams

It took a long time for me to realise that I was meant to be a nurse, but as soon as I knew I went straight for it and came to do this degree which has been fantastic with so much support and the best facilities we could hope for. I love being able to care for people, offering them something and just being there for them and it has been fun coming back to university. I just always did what felt right and believe that I need to be an advocate for those in need, that is what I am passionate about.
