Superb London College of Music Concert opens Graduate Summer Showcase 2017
A wonderful evening of music by talented students opened the University of West London’s (UWL) Graduate Summer Showcase 2017 in stunning fashion.
Held in Weston Hall at the Ealing campus site, London College of Music's (LCM) concert delivered a rich blend of compositions by students and performances of classical pieces by the College’s own vibrant, thirty piece chamber orchestra.
Proceedings opened with graduating student, Zane Veremeja’s orchestral composition inspired by the film, ‘Medicine Man’, followed by Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto K622, with student Yongzhi Cui as the soloist. Alice Rose performed her guitar composition, ‘Stranger Days’, before a performance by the orchestra of Mendelssohn’s ‘War March of the Priests’.
After the interval, students Hannah Smith, Alice Kirby and Michael Harris delivered ‘My Way’ - a guitar and piano-driven piece about rebellion by women. Around 170 audience members then enjoyed Francesca Louise perform her pop ballad, Hollow, which features on her soon-to-be-released debut EP.
The curtain was brought down on a fantastic opening night by a Final Project Showreel film of experimental recordings by the LCM Big Band, in both live and studio environments.
Commenting on the evening, Director of LCM, Sara Raybould, said: ‘This London College of Music Concert, as part of the Graduate Summer Showcase 2017, was a true success in every sense. It showcased the broad range of music genres at LCM, the collaboration between students - both front and back stage, while also demonstrating the creativity of our students through the compositions and arrangements.
‘We were also delighted to be joined by the London School of Film, Media and Design student film crew, for the recording and live streaming of the concert. This event was another very proud moment in LCM’s 130th anniversary celebrations.’
This week’s Graduate Summer Showcase 2017 comprises three days of fantastic music, fashion and graphic design by graduating students from LCM and the London School of Film, Media and Design.
