A UWL academic specialist was on the airwaves as Radio 4 tackled the issue of street crime by criminals on mopeds.

Doctor Simon Harding contributed to the popular Radio 4 show, PM, which reported on the issue. An Associate Professor at UWL’s Cybersecurity and Criminology Centre, Dr Harding features regularly on TV, radio and in newspapers.

A string of incidents in which victims have neem targeted while carrying valuables on open display in public, has led to high-profile media coverage and warnings from police for pedestrians on how to stay safe.

On the popular afternoon show on the BBC's flagship radio station, Dr Harding revealed to listeners measures the Metropolitan Police are taking to curb rising incidences of thefts involving mopeds as get-away vehicles. These include officers swapping their traditional high-powered motorbikes for agile scooters and using hi-tech spray to mark mopeds involved in offences.
