UWL’s stunning rise up the most respected university rankings has continued today with the new Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 rankings placing the university in 56th place nationally and confirming its status as the top modern university in London and 8th modern university in the UK.

*Modern universities are defined as higher education institutions that were granted university status in, and subsequent to, 1992. UWL received the rankings listed above when compared to all other modern universities ranked in the guides / surveys cited.

Today’s news represents a huge leap of 28 places on last year, surging 65 places over the last two years. The new rankings not only reinforce UWL as the top modern university in London, but also place it 8th overall in the capital. The university scored an impressive first place in London for Teaching Quality and Student Experience. It improved its position in 7 out of 8 metrics for which there is new data this year.

Professor Peter John, UWL Vice Chancellor said: ‘This is a truly stunning rise recorded in one of the most respected national university league tables. I am absolutely delighted with today’s news, which clearly underlines that UWL is a university on the move. Last year’s outcome was spectacular, and we have not only consolidated that performance but climbed even higher, and we now sit in the top half of UK universities.

‘Underpinning this outcome is our excellent performance in the National Student Survey 2017, where our students recorded some of the highest rates of satisfaction for teaching quality and student experience of any university in London, recognising our innovative teaching and commitment to putting our students at the heart of everything we do.

‘We are delivering these spectacular outcomes with one of the most diverse student populations in the country. We have an exemplary record in extending the reach of higher education to traditionally under-represented groups, and with one of the highest proportions of state school educated students in the UK.

‘Today’s rankings offer further confirmation of our incredible successes on all fronts. We will continue to inspire our students by transforming their lives through the provision of high quality, career focused education.’
