Artsfest: UWL Graphic Design students hold graduation show in Shoreditch

Nineteen final year students studying for a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design (Visual Communication and Illustration) at the London School of Film Media and Design (LSFMD) held their degree show at the end of May, at 4 Garden Walk, a space located at the heart of London’s creative industries.

The venue, an old industrial warehouse, was chosen by the students themselves, who were heavily involved in the organisation and staging for the show which counted as part of their final assessment.

Course Leader and Senior Lecturer Ben Dunning explained, adding that its location meant that creative people passing by could drop in and look at the work which was on show between Thursday 30 May and Sunday 2 June.
We also invite local businesses and agencies that we know are nearby.”
Thursday’s private view was a chance for friends and family to celebrate the students’ achievements with them. Also on the guest list were staff and industry experts who had been guest speakers or worked with students on the course across the three years, giving talks, workshops or master classes.
The course really does train us for the market and for the future rather than just being theoretical,”
final year student Viya Dave said.
Her classmate Katarina Poa Rosario commented:
My favourite thing about the course was working with 3D software, particularly using Cinema 4D. I got to meet a lot of professionals within the industry and ideally I would like to work in video game design.”
Fatou Diop added:
This final year I got to talk to lots of graphic designers and learn about studio life and how people work. I have a short film about stress and anxiety and various printed elements on display here – I have had positive feedback on my work so far, so I am very happy!”
Ben added:
This is very much the culmination of three years of hard work for our students. The show is about making sure that everyone leaving has a chance to make a splash and announce themselves to the wider world.”
