We make sure your voice is heard

When you enrol onto a course, you are automatically signed up to be a member of UWLSU. You can use your student union membership to match your interests and meet your needs.

Make a difference - Course Rep Scheme

Here at UWLSU, our course rep programme gives you as a student the opportunity to express your feedback and create ideas to improve your academic experience. We’ll also train you to gain new skills such as public speaking, and you’ll get to meet new friends that share the same enthusiasm.

To be a part of the rep scheme, simply turn up to your online classes in the first two weeks of term – your lecturer or course leader will run an election where you can nominate yourself to be a course rep.

Develop your skills with a student job

UWLSU offers a variety of paid roles for you to apply for, from working at the student bar serving drinks to your peers to working for our communications team taking photos at events. Working part-time in this way is a great way to widen your skills and add to your employability when you leave university.

UWLSU has a huge selection, of cultural, political, academic, arts, media and recreational societies. From gaming to social work, chess to dance – there's something for everyone.

Alongside our societies we also have a range of sporting clubs that train weekly throughout the year. They accept members at any point in the year and welcome any student regardless of their experience level in the sport.

Kick back and relax - Coffee Union

If activities aren’t your thing you can always kick back at one of our social hubs.

Coffee Union is our café on the St Mary’s Road site offering delicious sandwiches, salads, cakes and snacks, as well as hot and cold drinks and a place to relax with your friends. All of the money we make in our café goes back into your student experience. Why not pay us a visit?

Freddie's

If you need somewhere to chill, eat or just hang out in between lectures, then Freddie’s is the place to go. At night, Freddie's is transformed into a lively and vibrant environment to hold club nights, quizzes and live bands. You can also host your own events in the amazing space, from birthday parties to spoken word – we want you to make the most of Freddie’s.

The Big Conversation

In partnership with the University, we want to make sure you have all the information you need for your start at UWL. Our Big Conversation project gives you the chance to let us know what your questions and concerns are, so we know how to support you personally in your first year of university.

It takes about five minutes and will help us identify whether you need personalised support and if you just need more information about UWL and UWLSU services and opportunities.

We will follow up with you over the next few weeks and months to make sure you get everything you need.
