Sports and recreation
There are many ways for you to get involved and be active through UWL and our local area.
We have a gym at our Ealing site, located near Freddie's Bar by the Park entrance and reception.
The gym has a section of weights, which range from 1kg to 35kg, as well as a host of cardio machines, such as:
- cross trainers
- rowing machines
- exercise bikes
There are also changing and shower facilities and lockers available to put your stuff in whilst you work out.
Gym membership for students is £120 for 12 months (1 September 2017 - 31 August 2018). From January you will also be able to purchase a seven month membership (1 January 2018 - 31 July 2018) that costs £60.
As well as access to the gym you will also able to attend all gym classes, which includes Boxercise, Yoga and Kizomba.
Other membership deals
The SU also runs two other offers: Be Sport and Get Active.
Get Active allows you to attend all on-site classes and activities for just £20 a year.
Once you have signed up, you can book your place on a number of classes that run throughout the week. Find out more about how to join and see what classes are on offer.
Be Sport includes the Get Active package of weekly classes as well as giving you the chance to join in with more competitive and team-based sports. For £45 a year you can take part in football, boxing, badminton, tennis and Muay Thai as well as other sports.
Many of these sports take place off-site at the state-of-the-art Ealing Trailfinders sports complex. Find out more about how to join and see the currents schedule.
Our competitive football, rugby, netball and hockey teams train and play on the pitches and courts of Ealing Trailfinders.
The fantastic facilities at this professional rugby club are also available for all UWL students. In previous years our sports team have played their varsity games at Ealing Trailfinders.

Ealing and Brentford also offer lots of facilities and ways to keep fit, including:
- several gyms across the boroughs
- football, rugby and cricket pitches
- free tennis courts across the boroughs
- golf courses in Ealing
- local running club Ealing Eagles
- paddleboarding lessons at Brentford Lock
- EDGE canoe and kayaking club in Brentford and Ealing Canoe Club
- several parks and green spaces for running, cycling and walking
