Paul has enjoyed a varied career as an actor, director, musical director and composer. His work includes The History Boys (Royal National Theatre), Gondoliers (Apollo Theatre), Piaf, Fiddler on the Roof, Love in a Maze, Dreams from a Summerhouse and The Firebird (all for the Watermill Theatre), Nicked (HighTide Festival), The Fantasticks (Harrogate Theatre), Rwanda (YMT:UK), Trashchrist (Soho Theatre) and Me, Myself and I (Orange Tree Theatre).
He is a hugely experienced trainer of actors. Prior to working at LCM he lectured at many of the other leading drama schools in the UK – notably the Urdang Academy where he was Head of Musical Theatre for four years and where he wrote the degree. He has also taught at Arts Educational, the Drama Centre, City Lit, Guildford School of Acting, Trinity Laban, Italia Conti, Webber Douglas and The Centre (where he was Head of Musical Theatre).
Paul trained as an actor-musician at Rose Bruford College. He has a PGCE from Middlesex University and an MA in Theatre Directing from the University of East London. He is the author of Acting Through Song published by Nick Hern Books, for whom he is currently writing two new books on audition songs in musical theatre. Paul's approaches to acting through song are now recognised internationally and he regularly delivers abroad to deliver masterclasses and lectures based on his book.
