Construction is a fast-growing industry in the UK, and the need for companies to gain and retain skilled project managers is growing with it. This hands-on commercial and technical fast-track FdSc Construction Project Management degree can help you make the most of the opportunities available.
As a foundation degree, its practical structure lets you complete the course in two years while you are employed in the industry. If you choose to, you can then progress directly on to the final year of an Honours degree in Construction Project Management.
With its emphasis on sustainable development and construction, this course prepares you for the challenges of the modern building industry. As you study, you will develop the ability to make sure projects are procured, designed and contracted properly, and delivered safely, on time and within budget.
This course is fully accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
Day-release
This fast-track foundation degree combines work-based and university-based learning. Its structure lets you complete the course in two years on day release (one day per week), while you are employed in the industry or gaining work experience.
Please note that this day-release course is classed as full-time study. This means that you are able to apply for a full-time student loan - find out further information at Student Finance. It may also affect your eligibility for state benefits.

Course detail & modules
Your FdSc Construction Project Management studies will prepare you to take on a senior role. Through a combination of university- and work-based learning, you will enhance your knowledge and skills in:
- procurement and tendering method and process management
- project and resource management
- contract administration and risk management
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Building Information Modelling (BIM)
- building technology
- building regulations and construction law.
We will also provide opportunities to expand your knowledge and your professional network through field trips and seminars.
Visits to construction sites and materials manufacturers will help you grasp the real-world aspects of your theoretical studies. While weekly seminars with guest speakers drawn from academia, business and professional accreditation organisations will help you understand the industry and industry practice.
Our research seminars are also open to undergraduate students and will give you the chance to deepen your knowledge in particular areas.
There may also be opportunities to participate in competitions held by professional bodies, giving you the chance to demonstrate your skills.
In addition to these, we offer a range of teaching methods to suit different learning styles, including:

You will finish your foundation degree with the capabilities to successfully manage construction projects and sites.

Construction Technology 1
This module will introduce you to concepts of building technology, from site investigation to foundations to the structure of low-rise buildings. You will also study finishes and primary service provision, including gas and electricity services.

Building Regulatory Control
This module is designed to give you an understanding and appreciation of building regulations and town and country planning legislation that affect the building industry. You will be able to investigate the effects of the legislation upon construction projects. You'll also gain essential knowledge and skills regarding health and safety. -
Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Building Information Modelling (BIM)
On this module, you will train to use computer aided design (CAD). You will start by learning to use basic AutoCAD functions to produce 2D building design drawings, including floor plans, elevations and sections. Then you will progress to applying AutoCAD Revit to produce more complicated and complete design drawings, including 3D views and assembly and part details.

Design Procedures and Procurement
This module will give you an overview of the design process, approaches to procurement and the constraints on these approaches. You will also examine the role of the project manager and learn to communicate using various methods appropriate to the role.

Construction Technology 2
This module will allow you to develop your knowledge and understanding of building technology, focusing on the consequences of science on building design and sustainability. Your studies will also cover multi-floored construction and a greater depth of services.

Environmental Science & Building Services (work-based)
This work-based module will provide you with knowledge about Environmental Science to help understand concepts and principles of heat and thermal insulation, air movement and ventilation, moisture and condensation, noise and sound insulation, natural and artificial light with various types of lighting design. You will also look at building services and how these are integrated in the design of buildings.

Project Planning
This module will show you how to plan, programme and control the resources used in construction. It will give you an appreciation of the role of the project manager and the ways in which sites are managed.

Construction Law
During this module, you will have the opportunity to develop your awareness of how the law applies to all aspects of construction.

Integrated Design and Construction Project (work-based)
Entry requirements
These can include:
- A Levels at grades B and C (if you have two A levels) or grades D, D and D (if you have three), or above
- BTEC Extended Diploma with Merit, Merit, Pass
- Access to HE Diploma
- T Levels
You also need GCSE English and Maths (grade 9 – 4 / A* - C) or Level 2 equivalents.
This course particularly welcomes applicants with the following qualifications: - Progression or Advanced Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment - Courses in a related subject area such as National Certificate/Diploma in Construction/Civil Engineering/Engineering.
Students on the Foundation Degree must be in employment, or have access to employment in AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction). It may be possible for the University to assist in finding placements. Students will be guided upon application.
You may be eligible for a student loan to cover the cost of tuition fees, or a maintenance loan. Additional funding is available to some types of students, such as those with dependants and disabled students.
You need to meet our English language requirement - a minimum of IELTS 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening). Visit our English language requirements page for information on other English language tests we accept.
You also need academic qualifications at the same level as UK applicants. In some countries where teaching is in English, we may accept local qualifications. Check for local equivalents.
We offer pre-sessional English language courses if you do not meet these requirements.

- Fees for the 2026/27 academic year and onwards may be subject to Government regulation and change.
- Tuition fees are charged for each year of your course. If your course runs for two years or more, you will need to pay the fee for each academic year at the start of that year.
- If your course runs for less than two years, the cost above is for your full course and you will need to pay the full fee upfront.

I’m a Chartered Facilities Manager and Chartered Construction Manager with over six years of teaching and learning experience in the UK Higher Education with speciality in Construction Project Management and Facilities management. I completed a PhD in Construction Management & Economics at the London South Bank University. I’m currently a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader in Construction Project Management at the University of West London. I have excellent knowledge and understanding of Construction Project Management and Facilities Management principles and practice. I have experience in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I have an excellent record of accomplishment of working to meet tight deadlines. I’m actively involved in Teaching and Learning, Research and Knowledge Transfer, as well as Administration, Management, and Leadership roles.
