How we'll work with you

How we'll work with you

From the outset, UWL will work closely with the contract manager at your organisation, to embed all contractual requirements:

  • The University's Head Degree Apprenticeships (or Health Contract Manager) will be the account manager at the start of the contract. This person will lead on the contract and be responsible for the service-level agreement

During the apprenticeship, there will be regular liaison between the ASLT, the apprentice(s) and their mentor.

The Course Leader and Apprenticeship Support link Tutor (ASLT) will agree on a schedule of online meetings which will, in most cases, take place within the workplace. These meetings, taking place every 12 weeks, will bring together the key stakeholders to monitor and review progress.

During these occasions, feedback on performance will be shared, and discussions will take place about the current course topics and how these can be applied to the apprentice's role. The outcome of the meeting will be recorded using the Apprentices Management Software (ATPEM).

In addition, apprentices have weekly meetings with their personal tutor, which can either be face-to-face or online.

High-quality feedback

Feedback

Expert, detailed and timely feedback is an essential part of the learning process. Apprentices at UWL receive feedback in a variety of ways, including face-to-face, via marks and comments on assignments and over email.

Our staff

Our staff

The apprenticeship lecturers have been selected not only for their academic credentials but also for their relevant industry expertise and ongoing employer engagement within their industries and services.

Teaching teams

Our enthusiastic, dedicated teaching staff are qualified to at least Master’s Degree level and possess a teaching qualification (either a Certificate of Education or a PGCE), and many either hold or are working towards a PhD.

Continuing Professional Development

Teaching staff at UWL undertake five Continuous Professional Development (CPD) days over the academic year. Academic Apprenticeship Tutors focus on specific research as well as updating their industry skills and knowledge to inform teaching and assessment during this time.

Support for your apprentice

Support for your apprentice

Ensuring a healthy and sustainable work-life balance is a key challenge for both employers and training providers. Our support services are based in one location at the University, a ‘one stop shop’ where apprentices can access help and guidance from:

  • Students' Union Services
  • Disability and Mental Health
  • Student Counselling and Wellbeing
  • Student Advice
  • Student Engagement

Academic and pastoral support for apprentices is provided by:

A personal tutor

All students at UWL including apprentices have a personal tutor, who offers pastoral support and guidance on matters related to academic progression and choices.

An Apprenticeship Support Link Tutor (ASLT)

An ASLT will manage the relationship between you as an employer and the individual apprentice(s) working for you. The ASLT will liaise regularly with the apprentice and their workplace-based mentor, sharing feedback on performance and discussing current course topics in relation to the work the apprentice is doing.

Support for students

Whether it is practical, personal or study support that you need, help is available and easily accessible. Find out more about all the support we have on offer for students at the University of West London.
