Our built environment courses comprises three areas, Architectural Design and Technology, Construction Project Management, and Building Surveying. The courses are vocational courses and designed for applicants who intend to develop their professional careers in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry. The AEC industry is one of largest industry sectors with about 7% GVA of the UK and with over two million employees. The graduates of the courses are highly demanded by the industry. Our courses are all accredited or recognised by relevant professional bodies.
What's it about?
The Architectural Design and Technology course aims to train students to be able to enable architectural outline design to be buildable and sustainable via detailed design and specification. The Construction Project Management course aims to train students to ensure building construction projects to be completed with good quality, on time and within budget. The Building Surveying course aims to train students to be able to identify the problems and defects of complex building systems, and ensure a building to be maintained and operated properly and economically throughout it lifecycle. The courses are designed also to allow students to be able to choose a subject area which may be more suitable and relevant to their interests and capacities after their first year.
Who's it for?
These courses are for the applicants who want to pursue their professional career in the AEC industry as building designers and technologists, project managers and professional building surveyors. The career options also include detailed architects, design specialists or consultants, and site architects, for the BSc (Hons) Architectural Design and Technology students, construction site managers, sub-contractors or suppliers for the BSc (Hons) Construction Project Management students, and building surveyor and evaluators, building conservation specialists, etc. for the BSc (Hons) Building Surveying students. With the accreditation and recognition of the professional organisations, the graduates of the courses will get the relevant professional titles in the AEC industry after a few years practice.
What will I learn?
The courses share some common modules and cover such areas as (sustainable) building technology, CAD and BIM, building regulations, health and safety, land surveying, construction law, economics and finance. Each course then has specialised modules.
