Study Support Advisor Samuel Ratzer Willis explains:

We are visible during induction but at that point students might not know that they need our help. This week lots of students who haven’t engaged with us before have asked about the assistance we offer and signed up to our mailing list.”

Head of the Study Support Team Alison Griffin says:

The team are approachable and so helpful. Students attending our workshops achieve grades that are about 7% higher than the university average – so why not give it a go?”

The Study Support Team offers one-to-one sessions covering academic writing, English language, maths, IT skills, planning assignments, feedback on assignments, understanding feedback from tutors and useful resources.

The advisor kindly offered to help with some maths exercises. I was impressed with their ability to explain difficult maths concepts and rules with ease,”

one student says of their session.

Another student adds:

The advisor was supportive and encouraging in her feedback on my assignment. She gave me helpful tips and increased my confidence in my work.”

Study skills workshops are designed to build confidence by developing academic technique. They will be particularly beneficial for you if you find aspects of your course difficult, you have not studied for a while, or if you want to take your academic writing to the next level.

One student says of the four-week English Language course of workshops:

The presenter was excellent. She explained everything so well and answered all the students’ questions.”
