Dr Nagham Saeed

Associate Professor in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
School of Computing and Engineering

Dr Nagham Saeed has been teaching and researching in the electrical and electronic engineering field since 2007. Dr Saeed is the head of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) research group. She completed her PhD research titled "Intelligent MANET optimisation system" at Brunel University, UK in 2011. She has written extensively on energy-efficient intelligent systems in smart cities using artificial intelligence and optimisation approaches. Dr Saeed has published a respectable number of high-quality publications in well-known international journals related to various disciplines including telecommunications, modelling and simulating, industry applications, information, and smart power. She has been an expert reviewer and guest editor for top-rank international scientific journals, conferences, and workshops. She has been a member of many technical programme committees and editorial boards. Dr Saeed is the editor of the journals: Smart Applications of 5G Network and Engineering Future Sustainability.

Dr Saeed is a senior fellow in HEA, a member of IET, a senior member of IEEE, IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) UK & Ireland (UKI) Chair and the IEEE UKI WIE Early Profession Lead. She mentors early career engineers and aims to promote them through many events, conferences and workshops. Dr Saeed won the IEEE R8 Region 8 Outstanding Women in Engineering Section Volunteer Award 2022.

The disciplines Dr Saeed has been involved in so far are:

  1. Artificial intelligence and evolutionary algorithms, such as intelligent system techniques including fuzzy logic (FL), neural networks (NN), neuro-fuzzy systems (NFS), genetic algorithms (GAs), particle swarm optimisation (PSO), empirical model decomposition (EMD)
  2. Modelling and optimising operations of Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) routing protocols in communication systems
  3. Monitoring, modelling and controlling oil pipeline grids
  4. Intelligent energy storage and distribution management for microgrids and integrated transportation systems
  5. Internet of Things (IoT) to develop better quality of service (QoS) in microgrid systems
  6. Development of advanced process modelling, optimisation and control strategies

If you are looking to pursue full time/part time PhD in one of the above research topics, please feel free to directly email Dr Nagham Saeed: nagham.saeed@uwl.ac.uk.
