Rajinder Mahi

Lecturer in Built Environment
School of Computing and Engineering

I graduated from the Birmingham School of Architecture, registered as an ARB Professional Architect and RIBA Chartered Architect to support my professional consultancy. My working role in the construction industry has allowed me to gain excellent experience in the areas of architecture, architectural design technology, construction and project management, contract administration and professional practice within the built environment. I have worked on new build, refurbishment, conversion and adaptation of medical, commercial, educational and domestic building projects, graphic design and collaborations within radio broadcasting and the media industry.

As a qualified Higher Education Academy (HEA) lecturer, I have proactively applied my architectural and construction industry experience through teaching as a lecturer, tutor and researcher within academic institutions. I have taught built environment related subjects on course at undergraduate and postgraduate degree levels in the areas of architecture, architectural design, construction and project management, building surveying and professional practice within HE (universities) and FE (colleges) institutions in the UK and abroad.

I have ongoing interests in the use of social media and have actively researched and evaluated various online platforms as potential interfaces and teaching tools to bridge industry, professional practice and academia into the curriculum via the following accounts:

On a personal note, I am married with two teenage boys who keep me active and alert. My home life is a balance of family first, teaching and then professional practice consultation work which is an enjoyable challenge. I love listening to music, attending concerts, reading science fiction and fantasy stories, movies, driving and travelling. I am also proactively involved with the World Cube Association (WCA) where I compete & judge in speed cubing competitions and hold a national, European and world ranking. I also play club table tennis, support Leeds United and Brentford, am an official England team supporter and attend live footballing events.
