Our Outreach team

Krishna Maroo - Outreach Manager

I manage and deliver events and programmes on and off campus in collaboration with academics, students, charities and museums. I am a born and bred West Londoner and love exploring the amazing city we live in.

After 10 years working for youth organisations, I moved to UWL for my first role in HE attracted by the prospect of working in my local community and developing projects to engage hard to reach groups and those thinking about their next steps. I studied Journalism at Southampton Solent and worked as a Student Ambassador on Aim Higher Programmes too. This gave me an insight into the world of widening access and the impact it has on young people and their families.

Every day is different in my role as Outreach Manager. I could be hosting a group of adult learners on campus one day, then designing engagement programmes for teachers and careers advisors the day after. Later in the week, I could be visiting my old secondary school to deliver mock interviews, then taking a group of 40 young people to the London Transport Museum’s Acton Depot for our Saturday Clubs.

I am a Governor at my old secondary school in Ealing, and have recently been appointed to the Saturday Club Trustee Board.

Jordan Campbell - Outreach Officer

I have worked in the arts and education for 10 years across London. Although I am a South Londoner, I was born in West London and am glad to focus my creative energies here. I studied Anthropology at Goldsmiths, University of London, where I was a student ambassador for 2 years. I was then a teacher for 6 years before deciding to focus on developing arts and educational programmes across the country. I am most interested in helping people to develop their literacy skills and am very happy to be working in such a varied role at UWL.

Gagan Chaggar - Outreach Coordinator

I have always been passionate about reading, literacy and education. I studied English Language and Literature at the University of Nottingham then went on to train as an English teacher in Birmingham with the Teach First programme. Since then, I have worked in various roles within the English departments in Barnet, Ealing and Slough. After 8 years in secondary education, I am excited for my higher education journey in the Outreach team.

Scarlett Collins – Outreach Coordinator

I studied BSc Psychology and MSc Psychological Research Methods with Advanced Statistics at the University of Sheffield. Throughout my time at university, and after completing my degrees, I gained a vast amount of experience working with children and young people in numerous different educational settings, including higher education. Alongside this experience, I have worked as a Research Assistant on a large-scale service evaluation of a residential childcare organisation. I am really excited about joining the Outreach Team here at the University of West London and look forward to working in such a varied role.

Melissa Bailey

Melissa Bailey - Student Recruitment Manager

My past roles include delivering events and projects in various sectors including education, charities and councils. Many of these roles have been working with young people within the context of education including community engagement, outreach and student recruitment.

My first degree is in Event Management and I am currently working towards a postgraduate degree in Marketing Communications.

My role consists of leading a small team in delivering student recruitment activities to schools and colleges across London and the UK offering support and guidance workshops and subject specific events across the UK. You will also meet us working at many of the UCAS and UK University Search fairs taking place across the UK along with our student ambassadors.

One of the things I enjoy most about working in this field is helping young people figure out what subjects and careers they are passionate about when thinking about their future.

Feel free to contact us at student.recruitment@uwl.ac.uk if you are interested in working with us.

Stephanie Willmott - Student Recruitment Officer

I have worked within Higher Education (HE) since studying for my undergraduate degree in English Literature with Philosophy from 2016 to 2019. As the first generation in my family to attend university, I enjoy speaking first-hand to prospective students about applying to university, raising aspirations and helping students to make informed choices. Whilst studying at university, I worked as a Senior Student Ambassador representing the university at recruitment events both internally and externally. This included visits to schools, attending HE Fairs and running bespoke subject workshops. I also attended UCAS exhibitions, assisted with open days and applicant days and ran on-campus taster sessions. I also enjoyed supporting Widening Participation and Outreach initiatives both on and off campus in collaboration with HE partnerships such as Aimhigher, Access HE and We Speak.

I thoroughly enjoy interacting with students and take a student-centric approach to my work when engaging with young learners to enable them to realise their potential and raise their awareness of the opportunities and experiences available to them at university. I look forward to continuing in my role at UWL, liaising with our Student Ambassadors working on campus and travelling nationally to meet the diverse variety of students considering university study!

Henry Pooley - Student Recruitment Coordinator

I recently graduated from the University of Edinburgh and joined UWL as a Student Recruitment Coordinator in January 2024.

My life has always been intertwined with education. Outside of my own studies, both of my parents have worked almost the entirety of their careers in the education sector, showing me from a young age how positive a career in education can be. Following these influences, both during and after my education, I took up temporary posts at various secondary and higher education institutions around the UK within student recruitment and marketing, student information, and as a teaching assistant. In these roles, I came to realise how enjoyable and fulfilling it was to engage with students, helping them reach their full potential.

As part of the great Student Recruitment team here at UWL, I promote the University to prospective students across the whole of the UK. There is no typical prospective student, and each student faces their own individual challenges and circumstances. Here at UWL, I get to connect with students and help them to make informed choices regarding their futures, and champion the merits of a university education. It is a particular point of pride to work for an institution with such fantastic National Student Survey results, showing that what we do has a lasting impact on the lives that we touch.

I am excited to be part of such a great team here at UWL and look forward to helping prospective students’ understand the opportunities provided by a university education. Please do get in contact if you have any questions!

Jane Rae - Student Recruitment Coordinator

Prior to returning to education as a mature learner, I had worked in the spa industry at senior level, nationally and internationally, and in education as an educator and trainer, combining these with as many performance opportunities as possible. I am originally from Glasgow and in 2018 I moved to London to study Voice in Performance at UWL’s London College of Music as this opportunity had not been available to me when I left school. Whilst studying I worked as a Student Ambassador and in several other roles at UWL. This included representing the university working at various external and internal recruitment events and at several outreach initiatives. I really enjoy working in such a varied and diverse environment, travelling to different locations, meeting and talking with prospective students of all ages. I am also passionate about equal opportunities for all, especially for those who have not had the opportunity to follow their dreams and attend university. I am delighted to be part of the Student Recruitment Team and hope to utilise my experience as a mature student to support, encourage and inspire others to follow theirs.

Jane Rae has shoulder-length brown hair and is wearing an orange top.
Noemi Solazzo - Student Recruitment Coordinator

As a UWL alumna who graduated from the London Geller College of Hospitality and Tourism in 2021, I was chosen to participate in the University Graduate Scheme in 2022. As part of this experience, I completed a six-month internship as a Project Coordinator in the same college from which I graduated. During this time, I worked on various projects that aimed to increase student recruitment and student satisfaction. It was such an enjoyable experience that I decided to join the Student Recruitment team at UWL permanently.

As part of a fantastic team, I am tasked with promoting the importance of higher education, promoting what UWL offers and supporting prospective students in thinking about their futures.

I am able to travel across a variety of different schools and colleges in London and participate in some of the biggest HE fairs and events in the country. I enjoy delivering talks and workshops to a variety of audiences, and assisting students with any questions they may have regarding UWL and higher education in general.

Given my experience of being a student at the University of West London, I naturally feel compelled to share my personal “story” with others and give tips regarding how to have the best student experience.

Jack Wands – Student Recruitment and Outreach Officer

Since graduating in 2019 with an undergraduate degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics, I have worked in educational outreach in the charity sector and in higher education. I recently completed my MA in Philosophy at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and have returned to take up the role of Student Recruitment and Outreach Officer, based at the newest part of the UWL group, Ruskin College. I have always had a passion for social mobility and higher education access, being a first generation student from the East End of Glasgow, and hope that my work at UWL will help more students achieve their aspirations and discover everything higher and further education has to offer them.

Having worked in educational outreach and recruitment before, I know the challenges and barriers that applicants face, and I am keen and ready to support prospective students across Oxfordshire and Berkshire. Oxford has been a city close to my heart since I moved here for my undergraduate studies back in 2016. With the support of the community in and around Oxfordshire and Berkshire, I am confident that Ruskin and UWL can have a really positive impact on adult learners and young people across the counties!

Do reach out if you have any questions about studying at Ruskin College or the Berkshire Institute for Health in Reading, or if you would like to talk about how UWL can support you or your local community in Oxfordshire and Berkshire.
