Introduction to the course

Emotional resilience is the ability to cope with challenging experiences. It is acknowledged as one of the answers to emotional distress across a range of contexts such as education, employment, and general health.

This workshop will help you acquire and develop resilience techniques and enable you to reflect on your own experience in a safe and supportive environment.

Course content

What is emotional resilience?
You will learn where emotional resilience originates from and how relevant it is to everyday life.

Factors promoting emotional resilience 
You will examine various individual factors that affect resilience such as mindset, personality and life experiences.

How to develop emotional resilience
You will be introduced to a series of exercises which have been shown to develop emotional resilience.

Outcome and assessment

At the end of the workshop, you will have a better understanding of what resilience is and its importance to everyday life.

You will also leave with a set of techniques you can practice in your own time to develop resilience.

All participants will receive a certificate of participation.

Lecturers

The workshop is delivered by two chartered psychologists with expertise in health and organisational psychology, Professor Caroline Lafarge and Dr Moira Cachia. Both facilitators are full members of the British Psychological Society. Professor Lafarge specialises in health psychology and behaviour change. Her area of research is on resilience and posttraumatic growth. Dr Cachia specialises in occupational psychology and her research covers the individual’s experience of employment, particularly with regards to personal development and wellbeing. Both facilitators have experience of dealing with sensitive issues and are fully trained in safeguarding processes.
