The awards were attended by over 150 guests, including shortlisted nominees, UA staff and senior stakeholders from across higher education, partnered industries and government. The evening included a delicious dinner provided by UWL’s Pillars restaurant and wonderful performances from talented music and performing arts students at UWL’s London College of Music (LCM).
The seven award categories include five core awards, with each one representing a UA Alliance value: integrity, professionalism, innovation, collaboration and fun.
Award winners included Ben Bushell (Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for BA (Hons) Music Management at LCM), who won The Innovation Award, sponsored by Duolingo, for his work with London Noise Records (LNR).
LNR has embedded graduate employment and student success in the music industry, allowing students to produce music while ensuring artists gain external recording contracts with more favourable business arrangements.
UWL’s Head of Study Support Alison Griffin was a finalist for The Technology One Lifetime Achievement Award, for many years of outstanding work to widen access and promote student success, fundamentally changing the lives of many students for the better. A late entrant to higher education, her experiences led her to develop UWL’s Study Support Service, which reduces student stress and boosts confidence as well as the innovative Study Skills Summer School.
University Alliance CEO Vanessa Wilson said,
I’m not exaggerating when I say that our annual Awards ceremony just gets better every year, both with regards to the evening itself and the calibre of our amazing nominees. It is such a privilege to be able to celebrate the amazing individuals and teams that work so hard across our member universities and provide them with the recognition they deserve.”
Sara Raybould, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience), said,
We were delighted to welcome colleagues from across the sector to UWL for the University Alliance Awards. It was an excellent opportunity to showcase our wonderful campus, talented students and celebrate our dedicated and pioneering members of staff. Congratulations to Ben and Alison!”
