Students heard presentations from inspiring women at different stages of their career. They then had the opportunity to network with speakers and guests from across the security profession. They included hosts Lisa Baskott of 2nd Line of Defence recruitment agency, Director of Belonging and Inclusion at IPSA Amina Ahmed, Security Industry Authority Chair Heather Baily, Security Institute Chair Julie Nel and tech entrepreneur Tehsheena Shams of EarnFlex.
There was a distinct West London feel to the occasion, which was opened by the Punjab De Dancers and Dholi, with Punjabi food served and DJ Kades providing entertainment.
This was a chance to connect with inspiring professionals in the field. I have been motivated by seeing individuals celebrating goals such as reduced inequalities and highlighting the importance of making further progress,”
said BSc Psychology with Criminology student Tiberiu Buruiana.
This was an amazing opportunity to connect with and learn from individuals who have so much experience in the security sector. You learn so much from talking to people and listening to what they have to share,”
commented BA Criminology student Cristina Movila.
Professor Wakefield said,
The event was all about inspiring and motivating early career attendees from diverse backgrounds about opportunities in security.
Satia Rai and her team did a fantastic job of fostering an engaging and supportive atmosphere, where students could meet and learn from some of the most senior figures in the cyber security community, as well as others who are just a few years ahead of them who are keen to encourage others.”
