Ealing social work students take on three-day charity challenge

Doing their bit for their community, social work students in Ealing have raised more than £2,000 to support refugees after throwing themselves into days of fundraising across the borough.

Tasked to raise as much as possible for the cause over three days, the University of West London students hosted charity days and even did their bit for the environment with an eco-friendly vintage fashion show where they used waste material and repurposed clothes to pull in thousands of pounds for a good cause.

Collecting a total of £2,190 for charity, Refugee Action, the students have not only helped people in need but supported their own studies as they build the skills ready for roles in all areas of support and social care.

The first and second-year BSc Social Work (Hons) students were so keen to raise funds and awareness of the plight of refugees that they smashed their initial target of £500 within hours.

Course leader Janet Goddard said:

We are so proud of these students who have raised a substantial amount of funds for a refugee organisation using such innovative and creative methods in a short space of time.

Not only have they shown what they are capable of with their imagination and commitment, but they have successfully worked together to build negotiation and leadership skills and earn the experience which will be so valuable to them once they go on to work in our communities."
