Meet Sarah, the inspiring Digital Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship Graduate
intro
Sarah Jane Bartlett is the Housing Grants & Adaptations Manager at Hillingdon Council where she now oversees approximately 350 housing grant projects every year. The Council supported her dream to study for a BSc Digital Technology Solutions degree apprenticeship at the University of West London via the business analyst pathway at UWL’s School of Computing and Engineering (SCE).
Article
I love data, it’s everywhere. By looking at the data you have you can identify so many trends. Even if the subject matter changes, data is consistent,”
enthuses Sarah.
She put her work at Hillingdon Council and passion for data to clever use when she was asked to identify improvements that could be made to the grant process and worked to implement a bespoke form within an existing social care system.
I used this as part of my final year undergraduate project. The Council implemented the bespoke form, which has been in use by the team to manage grant data ever since.”
Sarah is a strong believer in degree apprenticeships as you can see how things are related to your work environment:
It’s great because you can learn and then apply. UWL offered me a broad range of technical training and academic learning. I found the group work with people from other companies inspiring. There was such a diverse mix of people and lecturers, too.”
In fact, Sarah enjoyed her time so much that since graduating in summer 2023 she has recommended the University’s degree apprenticeship to three people in her team at Hillingdon Council, who are all now students at the St. Mary’s Road Ealing campus.
She is furthering her growth and potential by doing a MSc in Digital and Technology Solutions at UWL, with a focus on data analysis, so she can have an even more rewarding career.
Janet Rowson, Director of Apprenticeships at UWL, says,
Sarah enhanced her working knowledge of data and digital solutions gained at Hillingdon Council by doing an apprenticeship degree at the career university. I am so happy she had such a positive experience at UWL, the success she has had and her commitment to additional learning.”
