Richard ‘RP9’ Tucker has worked with artists including Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande and Central Cee, who recently won two MOBO awards. Cem, who runs music management company Rebel Records, has worked with artists including Big Narstie, Akala and Jax Jones.
RP9 and Cem were given a tour of UWL’s London College of Music (LCM) production facilities by Ben Bushell (Course Leader, BA (Hons) Music Management), Dr Dan Pratt (Course Leader, BA (Hons) Recording, Mixing and Production) and lecturer Jed Welland.
During their visit, RP9 and Cem met students who were recording some music by an artist signed to the University’s label, London Noise Records.
They gave the students some fantastic feedback after listening to the recordings,”
Jed said.
The visitors also took part in a music industry panel event where Music Production, Music Performance and Music Business Management students asked questions and gained insights into working in the industry.
When asked about how to break into the industry, RP9 advised:
You need to make sure you understand how you are going to add value, what you are good at and what you want.”
When asked about networking, Cem said:
Network with creatives with the same interests as you. Find something that excites you, learn your own way of doing it and the rest will fall into place.”
BA (Hons) Music Management student Connie said:
The industry panel with RP9 and Cem was super insightful. Some advice I’ll be taking on board is how to navigate relationships and friendships within the industry and how to keep a professional work environment with people you are close to. It was great to have such seasoned professionals talk about their careers and answer questions.”
It was amazing to hear their knowledge about the industry and ways that we can improve our networking and businesses to help us succeed,”
said Calum, who is doing an MA in Music Industry Management and Artist Development.
RP9 and Cem are prime examples of the great guests that we bring into LCM. The students loved the session and gained some really useful knowledge,”
added Ben Bushell.
