Student Volunteering Week 2024 is coming!
Intro
Every year students and staff from universities across the UK come together for national Student Volunteering Week. It is a time where everyone can step up and take part, doing something good for their community in whatever way they can.
Student Volunteering Week celebrates student volunteering by:
-
Improving student wellbeing
-
Developing student employability
-
Contributing positively to the wider and local community
You can be part of Student Volunteering Week in whatever way works for you. There will be talks, training, and activities on and off campus, as well as tips and tricks shared on social media on how to volunteer in your spare time so that you never have to miss out. Remember, all volunteering hours can be logged via the Student Hub. Any volunteering hours that you log will contribute to the chance of you receiving an award!

From Monday 12 to Friday 16 February, there will be a jam-packed schedule of activities for you to get involved in both on and off campus! Each day is based on a particular theme to support as wide a range of causes as possible and offer students a variety of experiences. You can get involved in volunteering to support:
-
Mental Health – take some time to explore what good mental health means to you by writing a positive message for a friend at the VTeam stall, then help those experiencing homelessness through outreach in the city.
-
Community – get trained by the British Red Cross in how to respond in a crisis, help us tackle isolation among the elderly (did somebody say Bingo?), and even contribute your ideas on volunteering in the UWL community.
-
Environment – take a litter-picking boat ride down the Grand Union Canal or plant a tree in the park. Use these activities to feel empowered to create a greener London!
-
Local Heritage & Culture – join a fascinating tour of Brentford, discover the community’s history and how many fun and exciting ways there are to give back.
We will also be hosting:
-
A Volunteering Social – more than 80 of you have been logging volunteering hours since the start of the year, why not get together to celebrate, make new friends and learn what other student volunteers have been up to.
-
Volunteering Street Fair – Thursday 15 February, 11.30 am – 2 pm, join us on The Street and network with organisations affecting change on a local and national scale. Maybe you’ll find your next opportunity there!
Follow us on social media @the_vteam for regular updates and keep an eye out for the full schedule. All activities will be on Student Hub, so do sign up before spots are filled.
Don’t forget, the Volunteering Team is here to help you find the perfect volunteering opportunity. If you have any questions, just email thevteam@uwl.ac.uk or book a one-to-one appointment through the Student Hub.
