Tips that are wallet friendly and eco friendly

Sustainable spending is often thought to cost you money but there are every day changes you can make that will actually save you money...

  1. Store your fruit and veg properly

Different fruit and veg will last longer in different conditions. Making sure your food is stored properly will mean you won’t waste as much. For example, storing celery in water, in an airtight container, and in the fridge will keep it fresh for weeks!

  1. Freeze everything you can

Freezing leftovers and buying freezer friendly ingredients is the easiest way to make sure you don’t waste any food. Frozen veg is an all-time favourite (it’s a myth that they lose their benefits), and freezing bread means you can have toast whenever you want!

  1. Cut down on meat

Eating meat for every meal can add up. Swapping it out for vegetarian options where possible will really help your wallet and the environment – even if it’s once or twice a week. Try bean chilli instead of mincemeat, or halloumi wraps instead of chicken.

  1. Reduce and reuse

Do you know how many everyday products have reusable alternatives? It saves you time, money and waste to have something you can reuse forever. Some great ones are cotton pads, Ziploc bags, polyester dish sponges and even kitchen roll.

  1. Choose your favourite water bottle

Reusing will always be miles better than recycling! Not buying single-use products to begin with is one of the most effective choices you can make for the planet – not forgetting the amount of money you will save. Carry around your favourite water bottle to save your wallet and the planet, you can even buy ones with built-in filters!
